La Storia Della Margherita
In 1889, after the unification of Italy, Queen Margherita visited Naples and called upon the most famous pizzaiolo, Raffaele Esposito, to taste his specialties. Esposito invented a new pizza for the occassion, inspired by the Italian flag he used basil for the green, mozzarella for white and tomatoes for red.
The Queen enjoyed the pizza so much that Esposito decided to call it Pizza Margherita in her honour.
Neopolitan style pizza has since spread throughout Italy and the world!
